Welcome!

Canvas Gradebook & SpeedGrader
May 5-8, 2014

Ciao, everyone! Thanks for joining me for this training. My name is Gabrielle Orsi and I will be your instructor. You should have received an orientation email from me.

This course introduces participants to the Canvas Gradebook and SpeedGrader tools. Here's how this training will unfold: we will learn about and discuss these tools and related topics right here in this course, where everyone is enrolled as a student-- but we will also get some hands-on experience in the other, separate Canvas "sandbox" course where everyone is enrolled as an instructor.

Here are some tips for successfully completing this training:

  • Here in this course where you are right now, you are a student, not an instructor. Students can't do much course development or access the Gradebook or the SpeedGrader, because they are not supposed to be viewing their classmates' grades. So basically, if you find yourself getting stuck and unable to accomplish a task, most likely you need to switch over to our sandbox practice course where everyone is enrolled as an instructor. Just use your Canvas course list to find our sandbox course.

  • This course is packed with information. I suggest trying to read through and understand the materials first, then go back and view whatever tutorials you may need. I find that it can be easier to work on the daily tasks and then only look at the tutorials as you need them. Also, I've made sure that the most important/useful/relevant tutorials are also listed separately in each module- so as you read through a module, you can wait to open the tutorials, and easily locate them again later.

Ready to get started? You can begin by clicking on the Modules button at left, then proceeding through the modules in order. Another great first step is to introduce yourself in the Course Welcome Discussion!
